Dear Still News Subscribers:
Included below is a letter that was sent to those who have subscribed to the new Fischer Middle School ListServe. Since many of our current Still students will be moving over to Fischer Middle School next year, I thought I would also send the letter out on our ListServe for those of you who may be interested.

Dear Fischer Community:
As the new principal of Gregory Fischer Middle School, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the families who are planning to be a part of our school community and are looking forward to the opening of our school in August of 2009.
As many of you already know, Fischer Middle School will be using the building that is currently the Waubonsie Valley Gold Campus. Recently, I have taken a walk through the building to determine the kinds of things that need to be done to assure that the building will have that “middle school” feel for our students. High schools, by their nature, are departmentalized, but in our middle schools, we practice a team philosophy. One example of the changes we will make includes turning the department areas into team zones to make a very large school seem smaller and more family-like for the students.
In addition to the facilities, much work will need to be done in the months to come to hire staff, purchase equipment and materials, and meet the future parents and students of Fischer Middle School. I have been in contact with Robin Church who serves as the president of the Indian Prairie Parents Council (IPPC). She is working on scheduling a charter PTSA meeting for Fischer sometime in February. I will begin working to begin hiring teachers and other staff members for Fischer in January. Most importantly, I will also schedule time to meet with 5th grade students at Fischer’s feeder elementary schools as well as current 6th and 7th grade students at Granger and Still who will become Fischer students in August of 2009. While there is a lot to do, the greatest energizer is the excitement that surrounds starting something new. I am hoping that parents and students will also feel this same excitement and energy as we work together to build a sense of ownership and community in our new school.
I plan to send regular updates via Fischer-News to let you know of upcoming meetings, progress, and other important points of interest regarding Fischer Middle School. If you know of any other families who will be attending Fischer, but have not yet subscribed to Fischer-News, please encourage them to do so by emailing me at jennifer_nonnemacher@ipsd.org.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Nonnemacher
Principal
