ADK has been great for my little one so far. She is doing great with math, reading etc. she has struggled a little bit with the learning to be a student part though. just in a short period of time her reading skills have probably doubled. I'm glad to hear it has been a great experience for her. Do you think she has learned more by being in ADK than she would have in half days? My guess is yes but I do not know for sure because I have no other children that went to 1/2 day. and I can't seem to recall my experience with 1/2 day K....hmmmm

I have a question: If a parent feels their child is not ready for ADK, can the hold off from signing them up for public school for a year and start kindergarten when they are 6 rather than 5? Absolutely. I know several parents of children with summer birthdays that have done that. My son has a summer birthday and notice a big difference in his preschool between him as 4 years and a few months vs a just turned 5 year old or a child that turned 5 in Sept. I agree!! Big advantage to be one of the oldest vs. one of the youngest. I asked the advice of a very seasoned Kidergarten teacher many years ago and she told me this. She said if it's a boy and first born always better to wait if they are on the cutoff. I'm very glad we did for him. My daughter is one of the youngest but has always been more mature (when the oldest would babysit her it was really the other way around if you catch my drift and has done just fine. Hate to be sexist, but I do think boys lag a little initially with the social maturity aspect.
