Has anyone heard anything about a lockdown at WVHS? A neighbor called and said there is a gunman with a hostage.

From the listserv:
As a precaution, I have locked down the school this morning while the school administration and the police investigate a potential threat. I want to stress this measure is a safety precaution only and all of our students and staff are safe. We will provide an update as soon as we have more information.

From what I am hearing from multiple sources it seems that once the lockdown and room searches are done the school day will go on as normal.
I also heard the staging area was just a place for parents to go rather than having them rush into the school building.

Just to give the full picture - the WV phone message line sent out a message last night (Tues) from the principal stating that they'd found a threat yesterday (Tues) written on a wall IIRC. She said that the Aurora police investigated & determined that the threat posed no danger

I didn't realize the Gold campus had been locked down until seeing this.
=========== The Waubonsie Valley Freshman Building is no longer on lock down. Students in the Freshman Building are back in their classes and resuming their normal day's schedule.
We will provide another update as soon as the main building lock down has concluded.

Waubonsie students searched after gun reported Naperville Sun www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/1323571,Waubonsie-Valley-lockdown-121008.article December 10, 2008 Beacon News staff Aurora Police Lt. Paul Nelson said officers were searching students at Waubonsie Valley High School Wednesday morning after receiving a report of students possibly bringing a gun into the school. Nelson met with about 120 parents at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday in the Eola Community Center just north of the school at Eola Road and Route 34. The school is still locked down. Nelson said a student told officials that he thought he saw two other students with a pistol in the school. That report has not been substantiated, Nelson said. Officers are going room by room, searching each student individually, Nelson said. He described it as a methodical process, with officers “pretty well through it” at 9:40 a.m. He said the searches would continue for another hour or two. Police do not know how credible the report was, “but as always we’re going to err on the side of caution,” Nelson said. Police also said what was believed to be a bomb threat was found scrawled on a stairwell at the high school on Aurora’s far East Side on Tuesday. The scrawl in the stairwell said, “Bomb 12/10.” Police conducted a thorough search of the building and found the threat not to be credible, Nelson said. He said he did not know if there was a connection between the threat on Tuesday and the report of the gun at the school on Wednesday. Nelson also said rumors of problems at the school’s freshman campus across the street were untrue. News of the lockdown was posted on the school's Web site and sent to parents via phone calls and an e-mail Wednesday morning. The notice, attributed to Principal Kristine Marchiando, read: "As a precaution, I have locked down the school this morning while the school administration and the police investigate a potential threat. I want to stress this measure is a safety precaution only and all of our students and staff are safe. We will provide an update as soon as we have more information."

My wife spoke with a neighbor who was at the Community Center. The newspaper report agrees with what she would told a few minutes ago.
The word from our neighbor, from this meeting, was a student made a 911 call and reported seeing the boys possibly with a gun inside a bathroom.
