Neuqua Valley High School's student newspaper, The Echo, earned a Silver Certificate for Excellence in Journalism at the Northern Illinois School Press Association Awards. The certificate represents the highest award the paper has ever received. Neuqua Valley junior Molly Leger received a Blue Ribbon Award at the awards reception as well.

Business Teacher Named
Educator of Distinction

Waubonsie Valley High School business education teacher Angie Hysjulien was named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by The National Society of High School Scholars. The award recognizes teacher role models who have made a lasting difference in their classroom by encouraging students to strive for excellence. Hysjulien is in her ninth year as an educator where she teaches Accounting, Finance, and Consumer Economics.

Student TV News Program
Receives Top Award

Neuqua Valley High School's television news program, Wildcat Weekly, received a Student Television Award for Excellence from The Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This is the first time Wildcat Weekly has earned this prestigious honor. Senior Alexis Rogers earned an Honorable Mention from the Academy for her entry in the Long Form Category titled "The Game."

Students Compete in
State Geography Bee

Three District 204 middle school students recently participated as state qualifiers in the National Geographic State Geography Bee. Student representatives were Siva G. from Hill Middle School, Alexander K. from Fischer Middle School and Collin M. from Scullen Middle School. Siva qualified as one of ten finalists and finished sixth overall. More than 55,000 students across Illinois participated in the National Geographic Geography Bee.

Literacy Grants

Representatives from the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Literacy Foundation recently awarded the following District 204 schools with grants: Longwood Elementary, McCarty Elementary, Steck Elementary, Gregory Middle School, and Granger Middle School. Established in 1996, the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Literacy Fund was established to promote a deeper understanding and teaching of literacy, to enrich instructional programs, to provide opportunities to link literacy between the home and the school, and to lay foundations that will develop life-long readers.

Students Excel in
SkillsUSA Competition
======================
Students from Waubonsie Valley and Neuqua Valley High Schools competed in the SkillsUSA State Competitions held in Springfield. Of the 42 Waubonsie Valley students who qualified at the state level, there were five state champions and two National Qualifiers. The state champions and their categories include: Andy Tindall, Architectural Board; Jay Mulakala, Creative Photography; Annalise Ditzen, Interior Design; Pierce Leuders, Prepared Speech; and Tyler Xanders, Technical Drafting. Tyler and Pierce will also represent Waubonsie Valley as the two National Qualifiers. Neuqua Valley had ten students who qualified for the state competitions this year.
