I we had gotten QT passed, we could have afforded the jury price because the construction costs would have been much lower than now with no need for expediting anything. It was the combination of the 2 that doomed BB. This is my understanding as well. Then we would have also been able to avoid all of this year's lawsuits, the new boundary angst, and the need to sell off the 25 acres.

It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. ETA: failure of QT Thats the irony of it all. If QT had succeded, BB would have a high school by now. And we have Linda Holmes to thank for QT failing? Cheers. I'm all for pinning blame where it belongs, but I have yet to find anything short of someone just claiming it was her fault show that it actually was her fault. What exactly did she do? What I can find shows that the legislature was still fighting over budgetary stuff and it frankly just ran out of time. If something else transpired, then what was it?

Unbelieveable that they want us to pay for their lobbyist that opposed quick-take. How ironic is that? If their well-paid lobbyist hadn't done so well, we would have been building there right now. I believe they were on the side called the DEFENDANT Let's be honest though, if they got QT powers and started, would they still have paid the high price of 518K or found a way to back out? They would have had to pay it.....that is why I was against QT from the beginning.

Sorry, arch, maybe I was wrong, it had been my understanding last year that she didn't do whatever was needed to get QT through, that she actually worked against the district. This is just from memory and rather than go digging through documents/archives to try to find something to back up what I thought to be true, I'll just take it back for now.

I would say it was the entire Senate to blame...they were stuck in neutral and many things...QT Included. IIRC Emil Jones did not (or would not) call it up either.

arch - here is something from my column written in early July of last year, before the August troubles with Holmes/Macom/QT/etc. The edited column was published on 7/6/07.
Over the past several months we had the opportunity to obtain the property immediately through quick-take in the state legislature (HB153). Quick-take was approved by a bi-partisan group in the house and went to senate, where it has stalled awaiting the nod from Senator Linda Holmes (D), whose 42nd district includes part of the school district. Holmes has held meetings to discuss the issue but has refused to support the wishes of many district residents and the school board.
Since Senate is still in session, there is still a chance that quick-take could be granted and we could begin construction as soon as possible, allowing the school to open on time in 2009 and saving the district money on construction costs. There is still a small window of opportunity for reducing our district’s overcrowding in a timely manner. This overcrowding is currently occurring in many of our district’s schools and is not conducive to providing an excellent learning environment.
With quick-take the land price would be set fairly by a jury using local comparable sales for the reference time-frame. It is reasonable to believe from the information available that the price should come in not much above the amount that the district has offered for the land, which is nowhere near the exorbitant amount requested by the trust.
Construction costs have been rising approximately 10% per year lately and on a $100 million building every delay is costly and runs the risk of forcing changes to the proposed facilities in order to keep costs in line.
The gamble of having to possibly pay a little more for the land with quick-take is more than offset by the sure thing of having to pay more for construction if we continue to be delayed.

slt, many things from that session were left flat on the floor and never saw the light of day; even things more important than a local issue like QT.
Everyone makes it sound like had she just did BLAH it would have passed; so it's all her fault. I think that's a huge miss-leap of faith.

Similar to how everyone makes it sound like if the SB/SD did BLAH, we would all be happy; so it's all their fault. I think that's a huge pile. If one wants to equate not buying what they said they could afford after actually winning a condemnation suit and all we had to do was sign a paper..... to... actually getting legislation on the floor to be discussed, debated, actually having state representatives from around IL vote on a local issue to D204 alone all while they are trying to pass a balanced budget; because it's just as important to the whole state of IL and thus would have pleased everyone to stop everything for the state and pass it... then yup. A little math says that the 10 million per year construction cost increases would have only risen 2.5 million. ... and that was why we walked on being able to afford up to 600,000 ? July -> Sep (end) is only 3 months delay (cost rise 2.5 million). That 2.5 million cost increase supposedly 'broke the bank' on what we could put away for QT ($600K/acre) a 2% overall cost increase on the HS cost was the deal breaker. (2.5 mil / 124mil) I just find that laughable and why many of us said the day after the verdict. Bite the bullet, just pay it, build and move on. Then it would have been on the better situated land w/out the hazards, without the further delays, without the lawsuits and without the accelerated construction costs. But wait, look how much money we're saving with this path, and will continue to save in transportation costs each year compared to the 9% savings over today that 5A offered per Bruce Glawe's and Laidlaw's math. 2.5 million.. broke the bank and killed the deal. It's just classic. eta: spelling and dollar units..K not mil

Knowing some of the SB members what I felt was pretty well, I am willing to bet they would admit to more mistakes than some of the apologist support I am reading now. You're right they did nothing wrong, it's all the darn parents ( in some areas) fault - ( and Linda Holmes, and Paul Lehman, and the NPD, and whoever came up with that idea for a pedestrian bridge et at. ) we expected what they promised. Don't worry, that won't happen again. There'll be no need for future blanket support.

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda. Hindsight and all. We will all get past this. It will be a lot easier for those not on the short end of the stick.....for others every day will be a reminder. Will it pass somewhat eventually- sure, but not that soon depending on where one is. If I had your deal, I'd be mostly over it already.

I'm not saying it will be easy, but we will get past it. It will be hardest on the transition kids (and parents).

I've never said the SB has done nothing wrong. I've said before that they mismanaged some things or could have done much better in the way of communication, etc. They make and have made mistakes. We all do, but what I hear from you and other NSFOC supporters is that it IS all the SB's fault. I mean, come on! The bridge? That's the SB's fault now? The SB never told them to build the d**n bridge. The city of Naperville built it to join areas of that portion of the community. If you haven't noticed lately, the area around 95th and Rt. 59 is quite populated with more and more businesses and homes! The bridge will get used, I'm sure. And it wasn't built for the sole purpose of TG residents to cross over. Hell, they wouldn't have used it if MVHS were at BB, so what is the point of blaming the SB for the bridge? I'm surprised you aren't blaming the high price of gas on the SB/SD. Or is that tomorrow's rant? ETA: edited for language and clarification.

OK folks, I don't know why, but we seem to stray far off topic lately - please stay on topic (BB hearing on fees) oe I'll lock this one down, too to be frank, I really don't want to see each and every thread devolve into revisiting history, information, misinformation or things that the SB could have, or should have done with regards to MV - nor do I want to see each thread devolve into SB/Admin bashing - and I've gotten feedback from others that feel the same way - let's stay on topic & try to keep things positive, or least not so negative, once in a while here
