This makes sense to me, so that real estate folks are up to date on Metea when showing homes in the area. It's good to see the school district working with the community.

I remember they did this a few years ago with Waubonsee to show the realtors all of the remodeling that had been done there. It's a nice way to keep them up to date on the new things that are happening with each school so they can have some information to tell those new to the area. It's nice to do it a year early too as the people moving to the MV area this year won't be able to tour the school so some facts about the building layout or facilities might be helpful.

And this spring and summer, they've been sprucing up WV. Nothing major - some paint inside & out. It's looking very nice.

I just spoke with a friend of mine who is a realtor. She is somewhat new to the area and doesn't have any high school aged kids so she had never been in WV until the tour last year. She was very glad she went. They gave a nice tour of the school and pointed out the great things WV has such as the planetarium etc. (Did you know WV used to have a working bank inside?). They also pointed out some of the great technology that all the high schools have. And they gave her some great handouts about WV to give to her clients and a list of all the wonderful renovations that have gone on in WV as well as the history of WV. She also got some information about the Frontier Campus and District-wide information as well.
She found it very helpful and is looking forward to the tour this year. If you know of any realtors, you should pass this information on to them.

I live in the MV attendance area, and so far, the new HS seems to be an asset to home sales. We've had multiple homes in the $600K + bracket sell in under 30 days and one that has been on the market for over 2 years finally sell. It is nice to see that all the bad press hasn't seemed to have stuck in terms of home buyers. I think the realtor open house can only be beneficial for our homes AND for the homes in the WV attendance area. Holding it there will give them a double bang for the buck by showcasing all the great things happening at that school too.

I just had my realtor friend pull up homes that have gotten contracts in the last two weeks. There were 30 homes in 204 that got contracts since 7/29/08. Of those, 10 were MV, 7 were WV and 13 were NV. Here's the interesting part. Of those 10 MV homes, 7 were in the Watts/Cowlishaw area and one I think was Owen West...all with the longer commutes. Of the 7 WV homes, all of them were the SW-Fry and White Eagle. I think this area continues to be an excellent place to live. We have three great schools and people are moving here to go to them.

In the last 4 months, we had 3 homes on the same street go on the market, and sell (all) in less than 30 days.

Yes, there was one in our area (Owen West) that recently sold and there's another 3 doors down from me that has a contract pending. It was only on the market for about 8 weeks, IIRC and in today's market, it was surprising to see that it has a contract so "quickly".

That is good to know. We really do have a great selling point with our schools. I suppose I was thinking more of Ashwood which is not going nearly as fast as expected. And the people living across the street from me in WE have had their home on the market since April. But I am glad to here things are alright in that area.

Well, the higher priced homes are taking longer to sell I'm sure, no matter where they are located.

Can they find out whether the buyers or the sellers have kids and if so, what age?

I don't think they have that sort of data.
arch, do you really think that people would be OK with moving to Watts with small kids but then as soon as they get to high school, they need to move to another home in a different HS attendance area? Most people I know want their kids settled and wouldn't dream of disrupting them right before they go into HS. They do the research since buying a home is usually a long-term investment for most people. I suppose you will say that all of these people have small kids and aren't even thinking about HS or they wouldn't move there, right? Or they are still clueless about boundaries? I hope you are giving your new neighbors more credit than that.

I hope you are giving your new neighbors more credit than that. A lot of people in this town are not in it for the long haul, but rather 5-7 years. And yes, most of the ones w/ little kids I know are in fact clueless about HS, the boundaries, etc. I give credit where credit is due and while many are making assumptions about what one must have taken into account when buying a house, some are pointing out that for many, it's never part of the equation. When we purchased ours, only the fact that the ES was 1 plot away and the bus stops for MS, HS and Pace were on the corner mattered. NV vs WV wasn't even a part of it because our oldest was in 2nd grade at the time. It didn't factor in.
