Indian Prairie's tentative budget for 2008-09 was discussed at the August 25 Board of Education meeting. You can access a video of the budget presentation and a copy of the tentative budget below. Assistant Superintendent David Holm highlighted several areas of the $272 million budget. Holm noted the district's finances are solid as reflected by the district earning "Recognition" status from the Illinois State Board of Education. This is the highest quality measure of financial strength a school district can earn. Other highlights include a savings of $7 million in health care cost since a switch was made two years ago to a different service provider. Holm also noted that student achievement remains high while the district's operating cost per pupil of $8,639 is below the state average of $9,488. Holm said this year's budget has a $2.2 million deficit, which was expected due to the launch of all-day kindergarten. Expenses related to the new program will be covered by state funding starting next year. The next step in the budget approval process is a public hearing set for September 22.
