Thought I would post this for you Chico, eventhough no mention of D204 in it. At least you know he is still alive and kicking. www.suburbanchicagonews.com/napervillesun/news/opinions/letters/1189417,6_4_NA28_LETTERS_S1.article Fools are bailed out by U.S. governmentWhat's all this talk about a government bailout of fools who took on more debt than they could afford? You know who I am talking about. It's those neighbors who bought that SUV they couldn't afford with zero money down and then took out a home equity loan when they couldn't keep up with the monthly payments. Later, you will have to listen to them complain about the price of gasoline while their 4-year-old tools around in a big pink electric car which they purchased on their credit card. These same neighbors will pay to have a basketball hoop installed in their driveway when there is a huge park two blocks away complete with a baseball field, swings and a perfectly fine basketball court. When their second tax payment is due, they will have four garage sales and complain about their taxes, yet they voted for every tax increase referendum they didn't understand. In the middle of winter, they will complain about their high heating bills but when you go out to walk your dog on a zero degree day, their garage door will be wide open. In days gone by, one was rewarded for hard work and careful money management. And today, who does the government reward with their bailout? Fools. Paul White Naperville

The guy has many great points which I can find little point in arguing over. Yes maybe a bit negative but in fact (I hate to say) maybe not negative enough. I have to say I am no fan of PW but he has hit a home run on this LTE.

I don't disagree with his overall premise. I find it funny that he's still able to throw in something, anything, about the referendum. And he seems jealous that he never had a big pink electric car.

Come on Chicoryowl, this is so much of an improvement for Paul, I missed the reference to the referendums. We all see things our kids have that we wish we had, for me it was/is the monster big wheel.

Steckdad thanks that is the exact one. To go along with the Resignation topic give me one of these mean green machines. Can I just ask that you supersize it.

I had a big wheel. I was even part of a "cycle gang" with two other kids. We each had our own swear word. You should be aware that I was a badass in first grade.
I am jealous of the electric car. I always wanted one. I was going to get one for the kids, but by the time I thought they were old enough to drive it, they were learning to ride bikes.

Wow...I'm really jealous. The closest thing I had to a Big Wheel was blue Ford pedal tractor (grew up on a farm). It was sweet though. I would pretend I was my dad out in the fields. It pulled a wagon pretty well though. I would put my cats in the wagon and pull them around. I kept having to stop though and put them back in....Darn cats!

www.suburbanchicagonews.com/napervillesun/news/opinions/letters/1212864,6_4_NA10_LETTERS_S1.article LTE Sun 10/10/08D204 3rd high school never will be neededIn a recent letter to the editor, Janet Eggenberger asked that District 204 administrators re-examine any plan to move high school students from their current high schools. Her letter correctly highlights some of the district's flawed thinking with regard to the planned closure of the Waubonsie Valley freshman building. Let's take a look at the facts regarding the district's enrollment numbers, numbers contained in the official Sept. 30 enrollment report which the district just filed with the state of Illinois. Over the past three years, District 204 elementary school enrollment has actually declined and if it were not for the district's introduction of all-day kindergarten, the declines would have been even larger. In comparing 2008 enrollment with 2007, we see that middle school enrollment actually declined by more than 100 students. Wow, what happened to that huge influx of students the district told us would overrun our facilities and required the building of a third high school? Could all those fancy fliers and doom and gloom projections have been wrong? Why would the district plan to close the Waubonsie Valley freshman campus and turn it into a middle school when middle school enrollment is in decline? Brilliant planning, eh? The reason? By closing the Waubonsie Valley freshman building the district actually creates the need for more high school space. Are you starting to get the picture? The third high school isn't needed; never was and never will be. Paul White Naperville

I don't normally agree with this guy but his last two posts have some merit. I have always been for three HS and I think we need all three more then ever. But my financial people tell me we are going to be in this depression for at least two years. The Ashwood area that was supposed to supply the sudden surge in enrollment will never be built out; at least for several years. All of the ES that currently feed into NV will experence declining enrollments and you are going to see more and more For Sale signs and they won't be because of the boundary changes. Oh well that will be good for our current students; less enrollment. Sorry to be full of gloom and doom but this is a reality.

It's the economy Paul.........In case you have not been paying attention, no wait, you have been....your prior LTE......When all this was initailly planned; the area was humming along at a nice pace, then as processes were put into motion, the economy tanks........What to do? Stop? How about, for once, continue on, and be prepared for when the economy improves, and it will improve.

We'll have 3 uncrowded HSs and 7 uncrowded MSs that will be able to handle whatever student population there is. Not sure what he's trying to accomplish with this LTE. Unless maybe he just had a tickler in his calendar.
