Middle School Math SAT Registration Deadline Nears
Reported by john_rhodes@ipsd.org on 11/19/08
For over a decade, District 204 has participated in a statewide talent search to identify students with exceptional abilities in mathematics. Our middle school math program for Project Arrow students includes Pre-Algebra at the sixth grade level, and Algebra at the seventh grade level.
The Project Arrow students take Geometry as eighth graders. Sixth grade math acceleration students enroll in the seventh grade Curriculum (Course 3 Math) and Pre-Algebra in seventh grade. Algebra is taught to math acceleration students during their eighth grade year. Because of the large number of students who have shown interest in taking the SAT test in the past, District 204 continues to serve as a testing site. There are several reasons why you may wish to have your child take the test:
Exposure to a test that is normally given to juniors in high school, may serve to better prepare your child for what will be expected. The results of the SAT are not reported to any college before ninth grade. You can take it as often as you wish while in the middle school.
Math accelerated students at the sixth grade level who wish to be in PA math as seventh graders need to take the SAT test and meet the cut off score of 480 in math to qualify for PA math placement as a seventh grader. Or, those in seventh grade need a score of 520 to take a fast-paced Algebra course over the summer to qualify for Geometry in the eighth grade.
If, after reading the enclosed information, you would like your child to participate in the testing, please complete, sign, and mail the application to me at the address listed below by no later than December 1st. A check in the amount of $50.00 (payable to Indian Prairie S.D. 204), to cover the testing registration fee, must accompany the completed application form. Please note the information regarding financial assistance.
You will receive confirmation early in January. Further information will be mailed closer to the date of the test. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 375-3046.
Sincerely,
John A. Rhodes, Ed.D.
