Thirty-nine teachers from Indian Prairie School District 204 recently earned National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
National Board Certification is the most prestigious credential a teacher can earn. Like board certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review. The process can take up to three years to complete.
District 204 currently has 116 teachers with National Board Certification, making Indian Prairie second only to Chicago Public Schools in the number of National Board Certified teachers on staff.
Superintendent Stephen Daeschner said it is an honor for teachers to achieve National Board Certification, but students are the ones who ultimately benefit from the program. "These are highly motivated, excellent teachers who are providing outstanding instruction to our students each day."
