WVHS Students Receive National
Financial Literacy Award

Twenty-five Waubonsie Valley High School students are being recognized for Excellence in Financial Education as part of their recent participation in the 2008 National Financial Literacy Challenge sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. From November 3 to December 12, 2008, the Challenge was taken by more than 75,000 high school students.
The following Waubonsie Valley students scored in the top 25th percentile of the nation: Akash R. Amin, Chris J. Blake, Clint D. Brown, Jeffrey R. Brown, Robert J. Burkhardt, Megan Coley, Matthew D. Deboer, Kelly N. Deking, Cole T. Eisses, Ivan A. Flores, Andrew D. Hummel, Trevor B. Kay, Kevin Kirchner, Avni B. Kothari, Pierce R. Lueders, Michael J. Lyons, Nick W. Niemi, Poojith Padmaraj, Taylor N. Patton-Gentert, Timothy B. Stephenson, Jonathan R. Strauss, and Sathish Suresh.
In addition, students scoring in the top one percentile qualify for the National Financial Literacy Award. Less than 400 students nationwide received this award. Three Waubonsie Valley students earned this distinction: Robert J. Burkhardt, Matthew D. DeBoer, and Andrew D. Hummel.

Special Olympics Basketball
at the United Center

The Waubonsie Valley Special Olympics basketball team will play Neuqua Valley's team on January 23 at 7 pm at the United Center in Chicago. The student athletes will play prior to the start of the Chicago Bulls vs. Toronto Raptors game. Contact Chris Wolak for ticket information at chris_wolak@ipsd.org.

NVHS Musician a Finalist
in Air Force Band

Neuqua Valley High School student Katherine Kohler was named a finalist in the United States Air Force Band's Colonel George S. Howerad Young Artist Competition. The competition is open to high school woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists in grades 10 through 12.
Applicants from around the nation submitted audiotapes to participate in this prestigious competition. Four woodwind finalists, including clarinetist Kohler, were selected and will perform January 8 to determine who will be featured as a soloist with The United States Air Force Concert Band on February 22, at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC.
