As part of the proposed teachers' contract for next year, teachers would be required to participate in a weekly staff training session. This set block of time would occur each Wednesday before school. Elementary teachers would have 75
minutes and middle and high school teachers would have 50 minutes before school. The start of the school day would be adjusted slightly on Wednesday mornings to accommodate this program. The following Frequently Asked Questions provide
information about this program.

WHAT TIME WILL THE SCHOOL DAY START ON WEDNESDAY?
High School Staff: 6:55 am
High School Students: 7:45 am
Middle School Staff: 7:30 am
Middle School Students: 8:20 am
Elementary School Staff: 8:00 am
Elementary School Students: 9:15 am

WHEN WILL THIS CHANGE TAKE PLACE?
If the teachers and the Board of Education approve the contract, this change will take place with the start of the 2009-10 school year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WILL THE SCHOOL DAY END AT THE SAME TIME?
The school day will end at the regular time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOW WILL CLASS SCHEDULES CHANGE ON WEDNESDAY?
Detailed planning for the 2009-10 schedules will be finalized once the teachers' contract, which includes this program, is approved. At the elementary level, options to address the Wednesday schedule include adjusting morning routines, such as calendar time and morning announcements. At the middle and high school
levels, there would be a balance of instruction time for each class. An option could be to shorten each period by approximately 2.5 minutes on Wednesday.

HOW WILL BUS SCHEDULES CHANGE ON WEDNESDAY?
On Wednesday, the pick-up times for elementary buses will simply move 10 minutes later and middle and high school pick-up times will move 20 minutes later.

WHAT IF I CAN'T CHANGE MY DROP OFF TIME FOR MY ELEMENTARY STUDENT?
Elementary school parents unable to make the 10 minute adjustment will be allowed to drop off students at 8:50 am as on other days. Supervision will be provided for the additional 10 minutes before classes begin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHY NOT HAVE AN EARLY DISMISSAL INSTEAD OF A LATE START?
This program involves all grade levels. As such, transportation and extra-curricular activities needed to be taken into consideration. The district prides itself on the outstanding extra-curricular opportunities available to students after school. There are fewer complications with having this program in the morning, particularly because after school many staff members are sponsoring clubs, coaching athletics, supervising fine arts rehearsals, etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOW WILL THE PROGRAM'S SUCCESS BE MEASURED?
Measurable outcomes of the program's success include increased academic achievement at all levels of learning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT WILL TEACHERS BE DOING ON WEDNESDAY MORNINGS?
Each school will be required to provide a professional development plan that links directly to the school's improvement plan. Teachers will focus on school-wide curriculum, instruction, and assessment to achieve higher levels of learning for all students.
