Several Indian Prairie parent organizations captured Illinois PTA awards at this year's state convention. The Young Elementary PTA received the Outstanding Environmental Award for implementing an earth-friendly, fiscally-responsible, lunchroom recycling program. The school had 23 fewer bags of garbage on the first day it switched from Styrofoam trays to reusable baskets. Since piloting the program, four other District 204 schools have begun implementation of a lunchroom recycling program.
The May Watts PTA received the Outstanding Healthy Kidz Award for its innovative "Walk on Wednesdays" program for students. The Neuqua Valley PTSA received the Outstanding Legislative Award and the Sharon Voliva Legislation Partnership Award for efforts to develop a Social-Emotional Learning Resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the Illinois PTA during the convention.
