I'm not so sure that will be the way it happens, though. It sounded like they were laying the groundwork at the meeting for just covering it up. Extremely unwise with the current uproar, even though the IEPA would accept that solution. I had the same feeling about the meeting. That would be a PR nightmare. Of course, this district has never been too good with PR. To even begin to heal the district, somebody is going to have to budge and make some concessions. Yes, IEPA might accept it but how does the district feel about it? I would prefer to see the dirt removed. My daughter's friends will be going to that school. I want those children safe and I want their parents to know it is safe.

I agree that the soil should be removed in addition to any concrete or pavement that would go over it. I was under the impression that "fencing it off" would occur until the time it was to be remediated and used, if needed.

I missed a good conversation over here. I agree with everyone that it needs to be cleaned the RIGHT way. Would I accept the paving plan? Yes, but not happily. It's just a bad idea and not worth the cost savings.

Yes, eb, they will fence then remediate. At the meeting, though, it sounded like they would fence and with IEPA approval could pave over. It was not stated that the district would do that, but the groundwork was laid to say it was acceptable.
