When potential school board candidates begin circulating petitions for signatures this week, at least two current board members will be among them.
Naperville School District 203 board President Mike Jaensch and Indian Prairie District 204 board President Curt Bradshaw said Friday they intend to run for another term.
“I think the district is doing well, and I would like to see it continue,” Jaensch said. “And I would like to be a part of it.”
Bradshaw said he, too, would like to continue serving his school district.
“I truly believe District 204 can be the best in the state, and I would like to be part of ensuring we reach that goal. We are an incredibly strong district and have made significant progress toward that goal, but we are not there yet,” Bradshaw said. “During the past five years, our ACT score has increased by more than a point, and the percent of community members grading the District an “A” or “B” has increased from 76 percent to 87 percent. And, we have achieved that success while spending 25 percent less than our average peer.”
Three of the seven seats on both the District 203 and District 204 boards will be filled at the spring election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2015.
Other District 204 board members whose terms end in 2011 are Mark Metzger and Alka Tyle. Both Tyle and Metzger said they have yet to decide whether they will run for an additional term.
Three seats will also be up for election In District 203. In addition to the seat held by Jaensch, the terms of board members Terry Fielden and Suzyn Price end in April. Fielden said he intends to run again, while Price could not be reached at press time.
District 203 candidate packets, including nominating petition forms, for the April 5 school board election are now available. Forms may be picked up in the office of the board secretary at 203 W. Hillside Road, Naperville on any business day between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Nominating petitions for the District 204 school board election will be available for pickup between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on business days starting Tuesday in the office of the board secretary, 780 Shoreline Drive, Aurora. Candidates may begin circulating their nominating petitions for signatures no earlier than Tuesday.
A school board candidate’s petition must be filed in the same office where the packet was picked up no earlier than 8 a.m. Dec. 13 and no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 20. Candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretary’s office.
