2010 Award Recognizes Teacher Who Puts "Bio" In Biotechnology
Teaching biology in the 21st century dictates that concepts of biotechnology are introduced in the classroom. The Ron Mardigian Biotechnology Teaching Award recognizes a high school or undergraduate college teacher who demonstrates the creative teaching of biotechnology in the classroom. Criteria for selection includes creativity, scientific accuracy and currency, quality of laboratory practice and safety, ease of replication, benefit to students and potential significance beyond the classroom.
This year, NABT is proud to honor Elaine Modine with the 2010 Ron Mardigian Biotechnology Teaching Award. Teaching as Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, IL, Modine has created an active laboratory classroom where students do actual science and have fun while they're at it. That's no short order and we're proud to honor NABT with this award.
