It would be nice if we could not be shoehorned based on where we live... I have read "pro-Eola site" in several places as well as reading complaints about people who live near the MV site supporting it.
The voters in the 2006 election I believe can be put into categories of "pro 3rd HS," "anti 3rd HS" and "pro if I like location/boundaries, anti if I don't." Many of us, regardless of where we live, have stayed in the strictly pro or anti categories. The problems that have come up this year are with the other category - people who voted yes because they liked the planned location and boundaries in 2006 but don't like the new location and boundaries, and the people who voted no because they didn't like the proposed location and boundaries but are happy with the new.
Certainly no entire subdivision falls into any one of these voting categories and as we all know, many didn't bother to vote regardless of where they live. There may be a few people who truly are "pro Eola site" people but I'd like to hope that most of the people supportive of MV being built to open in 2009 are people who understand the need for the 3rd HS and 7th MS and are supportive regardless of whether it was their top choice for site.
I read a comment yesterday that although Brookdale's vote was a "no" that this person has only heard from Brookdale people who said they voted "yes." This seems possibly true as the yes voters in Brookdale may well be the people most involved and most likely to participate in boards/blogs.
We all know that not everyone in certain neighborhoods are NSFOC supporters despite all named supporters being from those areas. And that regardless of which side we've been on, most only want what's best for their own kids (with a large group of people also wanting what's best for the district as a whole).
I do like to know where people are from and the ages of their kids because then I know how they are personally affected by the changes. I don't ask people how they voted.
I live near the new site and I have always thought BB was the optimal site for the district as a whole and would have been supportive of paying the extra $$ for it. I voted yes twice and campaigned hard for the yes vote. Yet now I am being categorized as someone against the school prior to the location change, and now for it based on where I live. This is ridiculous.
It no longer matters who liked what location, who signed up for nsfoc (unless they need to pay legal fees) or anti-nsfoc, or who voted how. We need to find a way to be united as a district to support the opening of the new schools and the rearranging of the students.
