My freshman says that "nobody" is going to school tomorrow - if you were (or are) in my place, would you make your HSer go for the 1.5 hrs?

I know from experience that this is a true fact. Many of the teachers even tell the kids not to come. If I were you, I would call the voicemail tonight before it gets full.

In the big picture - it means nothing. A nice gift to your daughter on the last day of school!

I heard the same from my oldest, didn't believe it and she wound up being the only kid on her bus. Now my high-schoolers don't attend the last day and I've since heard that it's an opportunity for kids to meet up with any teachers they need to before the end of the school year. So it's summer already for half of my four!

I've never called in for it either, they don't expect the kids there from what I can tell, but still run all the buses. What a waste.

What a waste. what I find surprising, and a bit bogus is the whole yearbook thing - for me, going the last 2 days to school was for the purpose of signing yearbooks - I don't understand why HS yearbooks are not available NOW - they were able to accomplish this back in the early 80's with a lot less technology than they have today and another thing - while the MS kids do get their yearbooks now, they don't have photos of the spring sports them - I think that's bogus, too

I personally don't think anyone should have to go to school tomorrow, from K-12. Why they run buses for 1 hour and 10 minutes of class time is beyond me. They could have sent the darn report cards home today. I used to think they did it to get their federal funding, but someone who works in D203 told me that they have to be there for a half a day for it to count, so what the heck is the point?!?

If there is no business a student needs to conduct with a teacher outside of instruction there is no reason to go, and there is no instruction on this day at the high school. So I would say no. Sending the buses out is a waste of money and fuel, but it is probably part of the process of calling it an attendance day and nothing can be done about it. In our area the school buses are always less than half full anyway.

My junior had no finals today, so Tuesday was his last day

We have a hard time in this area with overcrowded buses and rarely can get the needed routes added. Maybe this is something that should be looked into (under-utilized vs. overcrowded routes) and fixed for next year.

I just realized my 7th grader will spend more time in the bathroom getting ready for school than she will be IN school tomorrow.

If the last day doesn't even involve them going to classes, how valuable is the second to last day?
I always remember the last day was a half-day (~3 hours) and we basically just went to our classes to get our grades and cleaned out our lockers. Does that mean we essentially have two days wasted?

Are we talking about HS here? They have finals for the last three "full" days, and then the short last day is optional. In MS they get their yearbook on the last short day and get to do yearbook signings. Last year my son refused to miss out on that fun despite it being extremely inconvenient for him to attend.
