A note from the Brooks principal received today says -
Important Note for Brooks Families:
Beginning this summer the Brooks School email list will be used as a primary means of communicating emergency information to to families (ex: school closing mid-day due to weather). This will be the case at each elementary school in our District 204. It is important that we have 100% participation from our families.

So, is this how the district is implementing their new heat policy? If they decide at 12 to send kids home at 1 they'll inform parents by e-mail? This scares me. Even though I work near home and am at the computer almost all the time, there are times that I can't be reached by e-mail. Especially at 12, people might be out to lunch. Many parents even if they did see the e-mail right away may not be able to get home that quickly. Yikes. It makes sense to send an e-mail to everyone, but then follow up with a phone call (I thought we had an automated system coming next year?).

I have not received an email message from the school once this year even though I signed up for it. I think it gets filtered by the server as spam. It doesn't even make it into my junkmail folder.

My husband has the same problem. Apparently it's something we need to work harder to resolve if this is a primary means of communication.

This heat policy is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. What is their plan for kids whose parents can't make it in time? Are they going to let them stay with the Y program? What if you don't get the message? Will our K and 1st graders be standing on the street corner after the bus drops them off and there is no parent there to meet them? I predict they will use this policy once and when all he!! breaks loose, they will abandon it!

What is ridiculous is how this district can blow money time and time again yet our children at the ES level have not air conditioning. So if it is too hot they send kids home? Wonder once the BB damages come in and we have nothing to show for it, how that $ value would have helped tremedously to get AC in schools.

I think one has to re-read the email....They stated that e-mail will be their "primary", which indicates to me there will be a secondary mode too...

Does EVERY thread have to relate back to BB?? The connection is money which is why there is not AC. Plain and simple.

I think one has to re-read the email....They stated that e-mail will be their "primary", which indicates to me there will be a secondary mode too... Then why would it be important to have 100% participation in the e-mail system? How would they ever know when they have 100% since the way it's done now doesn't connect the parents' e-mail to the student? I was under the impression from something I heard recently that they would make sure that all children had a parent to come home to, so I'm sure this will be done. I'm just not sure where this e-mail system fits into that. They also said that classrooms last year never got to the point they would have sent kids home. Their temperature measures seemed far off from what I'd heard from parents and teachers.

I have felt high temps at several of the schools in this district and it stinks that our children have to endure this. Your point? If we have to pay out a large sum of money, when AC gets placed on a ref count it to be a NO vote for sure. Well we could always blend it in with the 3rd HS operational $ and have both on the next ref ballot. Actually that would be a great idea. Goodnite Warrior.

Hey guys, I'm sure you are all aware that even with AC, it is still hot in the schools. NVHS is air-conditioned and it was sweltering in there yesterday while the kids were taking there 4 hour AP test!
