As I am going through my registration paperwork, I was wondering if anyone knew of the date for the IPPC basketball game?
I went to it last year and it was wonderful to see the entire district come together and cheer on all the students from all of the different schools, whether they were competing in basketball or performing in between. I also recall the game making some pretty good money that allowed the IPPC to give out several scholarships to HS students.
Has there been a date nailed down for this? I think they did a great job last year, and look forward to attending again.

No date that I've heard, but last year it was in November. I couldn't attend but I heard it was such a great event. Lots of community participation as well as district participation.

I hope it's not too close to Thanksgiving. I'd like to go to the game. I'm traveling over Thanksgiving and I hope it doesn't coincide.

I've never gone before but would like to go this year. This sounds like a great event, not only for the community, but for the district as well.

I have just received an e-mail that there is not going to be an IPPC basketball game this year. I have not yet heard back about why and whether there will be any alternate unity and/or scholarship fundraising event.
I have heard many good things about the success of last year's game and was hoping/assuming this was the beginning of a district tradition, and one that I'm sure we could use this year more than ever.

Perhaps the volunteer pool is a little tighter this year. That was a humongous effort. These events certainly don't run themselves.

Knowing this event is in jeopardy, I would certainly have volunteer to help. I didn't go last year but the people I spoke to who did go thought it was great and I was looking forward to it this year. *sigh*

Perhaps the volunteer pool is a little tighter this year. That was a humongous effort. These events certainly don't run themselves. A friend of mine in IPPC said that someone had already stepped up to chair this for the next 2 years and that she had all of her volunteers in place for this year and were already making plans when the rug got pulled out from under them. All of those volunteers are very angered and upset that this was the decision made by the new IPPC officers. How this could be done now when the district needs this sort of event to bring the community together is beyond me. I wonder if the IPPC members will discuss this.

I have heard many good things about the success of last year's game and was hoping/assuming this was the beginning of a district tradition, and one that I'm sure we could use this year more than ever. WOW! This really surprises me. No reason was given? That's odd. IIRC, this game resulted in a huge increase in the number of scholarships that were given. I belive they went from giving out 6 to 16, 2 of which included special needs scholarships. I hope that there are plans to discuss this or at the very least, discuss options in which to do something similar. I know that some of these kids/families appreciate every penny. This is really unfortunate considering what this game did for the community last year. I would think it would be even more important to do something such as the basketball game to bring the community and district together this year and the next. Wasn't that the original plan? Last year at WVHS, this year at NVHS and the next at MVHS since they would be open then?

What am I missing? This doesn't make sense to me.
Popular event. Increased scholarships to kids. Brought people together from all over the district. Chair and volunteers lined up.
Why is it being cancelled?

Why is it being cancelled? I agree Chico, seems like everything is ready to go so why not do it? It was a great event. A few people had different agendas? Different motives? Leads me to wonder if it has anything to do with having it at NVHS this year and the anomousity that some people might still fee about leaving NVHS. I would think this would be something that would help the process, though. The game wasn't about one school vs. another or north vs. south. It was where the community came together. I just don't get it. Something else has to be at play here.

It is totally up to the IPPC board to decide what activities align with their mission and goals as a PTA umbrella organization. Of course, another organization could decide to run this event anytime in the future.

But if people are in place and want to organize it, how can this not be in line with their mission and goals? Did that suddenly change? I'm not well versed on the IPPC but I think a district-wide event would be crucial right now, not to mention all the good it will do for the kids and scholarships. If no one wanted to do it, I can see it getting put off. It just sounds like there is some sort of political game going on to me.
