KidsMatter Volunteer Fair
September 23
======================
Finding ways to become a community contributor can sometimes be
challenging for teens. As your student considers involvement in
extracurricular activities, consider exposing him or her to opportunities that will
provide a sense of purpose and help ignite the volunteer spirit that has
shaped our thriving community.
KidsMatter is hosting its 6th Annual Volunteer Fair for students in
grades 6 and up on Tuesday, September 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the
Naperville Municipal Center, 400 Eagle Street.
Students from all area middle schools and high schools are invited to
participate. This year family volunteer opportunities will be available.
Students will have an opportunity to connect with representatives from
over 30 local organizations that offer volunteer service opportunities
for youth, including Naper Settlement, Loaves and Fishes, Friends for
Therapeutic Equine Activities, Gigi's Playhouse, American Cancer
Society, DuPage Children's Museum, Easter Seals, Feed My Starving Children,
DuPage P.A.D.S, March of Dimes, The Heritage YMCA and the Naperville Park
District just to name a few.

Keeping Your Kids Safe
September 24
======================
Times have changed and child safety continues to be on every parent's
mind, but what are the facts and how do we talk to our kids without
frightening them? Join Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith of the Naperville Police
Department for "Keeping Your Kids Safe, It's Not About Stranger Danger
Anymore," a free program sponsored by the Exchange Club of Naperville
and Illinois State Representative Joe Dunn's office. The event will be
held at the Naperville Municipal Center on Wednesday, September 24, at 7
p.m.
The presentation includes the real facts surrounding child abduction
and how you can protect your kids from predators who might encounter your
child in person or on the Internet. You'll learn how to talk to
children about uncomfortable issues, how to build self-confidence and
awareness in your kids and how to motivate them to help keep themselves safe,
all without making them paranoid or fearful. The presentation, which is
not appropriate for kids, is fast paced, current and interactive. This
program is designed for parents, grandparents and other caregivers of
infants through college-bound kids.
