My concern is simple, the school board members are talking ....is anyone listening.
I am no expert on board meeting or the inner workings of school districts in general, but from past experience it has become very apparent to me that there is a lot more than "meets the eye" to running a school district.
In the past year going to school board meetings sporadically and catching up on ones thru video, I started to become concerned if people were really listening. For example take last meeting and a situation that I noticed. Board member Alka Tyle had a concern regarding two subjects. The first had to do with the administration and how it represented itself in property tax disputes. She questioned the administrators regarding the possibility of the district arguing with residential homeowners about the tax value of homes. The adm. noted that the district represents it's interest in larger cases mostly commercial type situations.
The second point Alka brought up had to do with volunteers and the idea that the same volunteers are always doing the work. Work that possible should be shared by many, imo. She also noted that many of the social events are very well attended, at which time someone from the audience quietly whispered "well sure everyone wants to go to the parties". The concern that Alka brought up is a concern affecting many organizations and one that needs to be addressed.
In these tightening economic times the need for volunteers will be higher than ever.
Alka our elected board member has brought this concern to the forefront this past week. As I look at the discussion board topics on both blue and green my concern is "Have We Been Listening"
