Only 428 of the more than 1.4 million 2008 graduates nationally who took the ACT earned a top score. In Illinois, 62 high school graduates out of more than 140,000 in the class of 2008 earned a top score on the ACT.

This is indeed good news. I wish the paper could delve a bit further and show how well the overal district population does in these testing situations. More important than test measuring, a write-up about the district's "student population readiness" for advanced education would be nice to hear about.
It is nice to take a break from all the negative news of the day and hear good positive stories that are all around us.

Yes, it is impressive -- Illinois had a much higher percentage than the nation as a whole.
