Good to see this. I hate driving by the high school and see kids running across Eola like that. Very dangerous. 22 Waubonsie students get jaywalking tickets www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/news/1405858,Waubonsie-students-jaywalking_AU013009.article January 30, 2009 By MATT HANLEY Staff Writer Aurora police issued tickets to 22 Waubonsie Valley High School students for jaywalking Thursday. Police saw students running east from the school campus in the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue across Eola Road. According to police, officers have continually warned students of the dangerous practice both to themselves and to the motorists driving in the area. Police said the behavior has caused vehicle crashes in the past. The students were issued citations for crossing at other than a crosswalk. After that operation, police turned to traffic enforcement, stopping 19 cars and issuing 10 tickets, five written warnings, and four verbal warnings at locations on the city's far East Side that have experienced a high number of traffic crashes.

I am happy to see that, as well. Some kids will cross right in front of cars and "dare you to hit them", so to speak. It's very dangerous behavior, but I see it all the time.

And the penalty for a jaywalking ticket is? I think $25 fine, IIRC. Parent may know that better than I, though.

What great timing, my son just called saying he was at Wendy's across the street from WV. I asked him where he crossed to get there. He said the stoplight. I said "Good, because 22 students didnt yesterday and got tickets, if you were to get one...you would be paying for it !! "
