I wonder if budget cuts with Aurora and the district will impact this program. Great program.

"My Time" After School Program Enriches Still Students
Location: Still Middle School
Date/Time: 4/30/2009 (11:58:00 PM)
For the third consecutive year, Still Middle School, in collaboration with the City of Aurora, Communities In Schools, and Aurora University, offered the “My Time” After-School Program to its students. This is a free program offered to all students in an effort to enrich their daily learning experience and offer a safe and fun place for them to interact with each under proper supervision. This year the program began on September 22nd and ran through April 30th. “My Time” participants attended Monday through Thursday from 3:00 until 6:00pm. During their time at the program, the students were provided a snack, given an opportunity to complete homework, and participated in a variety of activities.
The program is facilitated by three of the middle school staff; however, college students from Aurora University were also hired in order to serve as counselors and mentors each day of the program. During the academic portion of the program, these students provided tutoring to any participant needing extra assistance with their work. Participants were also allowed to work collaboratively on any projects or group assignments that they had been assigned.
Once students’ homework was completed they had the choice of participating in a variety of activities. Some of the activities offered this year included computer club, board games, creative games, organized sports, and open gym. Additionally, on a regular basis, participants were visited by a variety of service providers from the community. Some of these agencies included the Aurora Public Library, Bob Pape Science & Magic, Robert Crown Center for Health Education, The King’s Daughter Ministries, and Rites of Passage. With these organizations, “My Time” participants had the opportunity to construct arts and crafts, conduct science experiments, learn about the human body, engage in the art of theater, and discover future career options.
Additionally, “My Time” participants were offered the opportunity to attend several field trips. This year the students went bowling, roller skating, attended an IMAX movie, visited the SciTech museum, participated in a talent show, and experienced a variety of entertaining acts at the Prisco Center in Aurora. The year culminated by an interactive show put on by Radio Disney as part of the end of year celebration.
“My Time” participants enjoyed the time spent at the program this year and expressed appreciation for the opportunity. The parents of the participants appreciated the fact that their students were supervised after school and also were able to complete their homework so that they could spend quality time together during their evenings.
