Voices of praise for the new Metea Valley
Daily Herald 8/19/09
"The fact that more than 1,200 students will be able to spread out in a brand new, state-of-the-art building in Aurora for their first two years of high school is extremely exciting for me personally since I have been watching the building go up with anticipation for the past year.
"I'm sure the students from Granger, Hill and Still middle schools and Waubonsie Valley High School who will walk through the doors of Metea Valley will feel that excitement even though it will mean summer vacation is over. Aurora is truly proud to say that Metea Valley High School will be added to the list of high schools in our city."
- Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner
"I am appreciative that three reasonably-sized high schools will result in increased opportunities for all District 204 students."
- District 204 President Curt Bradshaw
"In an ideal world, Metea would have opened its doors two years ago. I applaud our former and current superintendents (as well as) Dave Holm, Todd DePaul and everyone else involved in this project for their tenacity and doggedness in overcoming the challenges presented by both external and internal factors and seeing things through.
"Metea is a modern, eco-friendly facility with an abundance of natural light and a high-energy staff. It will serve our students and community well in the long run. Most importantly, it will provide the physical space, equipment and facilities the staff need to deliver an increasingly higher standard of education, per the long-term targets adopted by the board."
- board member Alka Tyle
"The community has worked long and hard for this school. I am excited and look forward to the arrival of another fine learning institution in District 204."
- board member Chris Vickers
"I had the opportunity to tour Metea this spring. It's a beautiful building on the inside, with some unique aspects like the courtyard and the grand staircase leading into the cafeteria.
"Beyond the building, Metea has plucked some of the best teachers from the district to educate our students. Choral Director Nathan Bramstedt, for example, comes from Crone (Middle School). He is the best of the best, and we're fortunate to have top-notch teachers like him.
"The students who are our new Mustangs, have the unique opportunity to create new traditions that will last forever. I love the slogan from the Mustang's AD: Tradition Starts Today."
- board member Dawn DeSart
"With the opening of our last two schools (including Fischer Middle School), I am excited to see our staff and administration continue to dedicate themselves to creating a healthy competition between schools, yet collaboratively establish educational programs and classes where all our students throughout the district will share equitably in the educational process. During these uncertain economic times, we are called on, more than ever, to ensure that all our students be provided with the best opportunity for success; they are our future work force and leaders. I am grateful we live in a community that has chosen to support our educational system, confident it will be done in a fiscally responsible manner."
- board member Cathy Piehl
"I had the chance to walk through the building and talk with some of the staff and students. The anticipation and excitement is absolutely contagious. The thought that was put into this facility and the grounds is extremely impressive. This is a fantastic addition to our district. I'm excited for the students, staff and community as Metea Valley promises a future filled with incredible opportunities."
- board member Susan Rasmus
"It's been nice to see the reaction of the students and the staff to their new building."
- board member Mark Metzger
