Since class size increases will be an issue next yr, lets see where this has been at in recent years. The ES numbers are very straightforward, since enrollment report lists number of students and sections. (MS and HS don't have "sections") We can revisit this in the fall when section assignments are made. Class size, in students per section: ES BD Br Bu Clow Cowl Fry Gtow Gom Gr Ken Long Mcc Ow Pat Pet SB Stk Watt Wel WE You TOT | 09-10 23.6 24.7 25.4 24.2 24.7 25.8 24.0 22.5 25.0 25.2 25.9 24.1 25.7 25.6 23.4 26.1 24.7 25.5 26.1 23.9 26.3 25.0 | 08-09 25.0 25.1 25.3 25.2 24.8 26.1 24.8 23.5 24.3 25.9 24.1 24.3 23.5 25.2 22.9 27.2 25.1 26.1 25.8 24.4 25.4 25.0 | 07-08 24.4 23.5 25.8 24.3 23.8 26.4 24.1 22.7 27.1 26.4 20.7 23.1 24.4 25.8 23.5 24.4 26.4 24.6 25.3 24.0 25.1 24.7 | 06-07 21.9 24.3 25.9 23.0 23.8 24.4 24.0 21.1 25.5 24.3 22.6 22.6 23.1 25.2 0.0 23.5 23.8 25.2 23.7 24.7 23.4 23.9 |

The school average is one data point to examine in the fall. Another will be the proportion of classes that hit the 28, 29, 30, or 31 children maximum in each school. Many grades will not see much change in the class size, but those that do will see a very large change--from 22 or 23 students per class to 30 or 31--and there is no way instruction and learning opportunities will not be affected for those children. If the numbers hold for one of my children, her class will have 30 or 31 children in it. And I am very, very disappointed in that situation.

Yes, we can also check the variation class-to-class. Not just building avg. I agree that is another, deeper way to check. when I get a chance, i will put that up, for this school year. I am disappointed too. We will watch and keep eye on this info nxt yr, just to judge the effects. Not just simply look at overall averages, as you say, but also class variations.
