Call me naive or whatever you want, but I still believe our school board and admin over the years has done far more right than wrong. Here's a place to give them a thumbs up or thumbs down with a one-liner for decisions in the past few years. I think some decisions deserve both.
All Day Kindergarten
Thumbs up for being progressive in making sure that the educational needs of our youngest students are being met.
Thumbs down for rushing into this and for setting up half-day K in a way that very few who actually want it will wind up with it.
Freshmen Centers
Thumbs down for going with freshmen centers instead of a third HS.
Thumbs up for choosing a ref for freshmen centers if in fact it was highly unlikely we could have passed a ref for a new HS at that time due to paying on other buildings.
2005 ref
Thumbs up for having a citizens' committee investigate a variety of alternatives for overcrowding.
Thumbs up for having the BB deal ready to go.
2006 ref
Thumbs up for finding a way to get the community involved and paying attention.
Thumbs down that this involved boundaries that was not only a painful process but turned out to be unnecessary.
MS Schedule changes
Thumbs up for listening to teacher input and taking some time to implement it fully.
AP course changes
Thumbs up for finding additional opportunities for advanced studies for HS students.
Air conditioning
Thumbs down for not installing it in every building to start with.
Thumbs down for not pursuing it further when it was such a "hot topic" last fall.
(IMO they've made many, many other great decisions and I'm sure many opinions about these but I'm out of time)
