Thought I would start an area to talk about this. I think the upcoming SB election should be interesting. We have 4 seats up and that could certainly change the makeup of the current SB. So any thoughts, criteria for a good SB member, who you would or wouldn't vote for. For one, I wouldn't vote for CV is she was running against herself. Just my opinion. I cannot tolerate politicians who are so wishy-washy. "I support Metea . . . I don't support Metea . . . I'm a team player now . . . can I take my vote back?"

What will be interesting is who will be running for relection? I have heard vibes that JC and JS won't run again but that is only rumor. If CV chooses to run I think she will get alot of support from the south part of the district because she took back her vote. In any case it will be interesting to see how many people decide to run and where they are from. Hopefully they will be a better lot then the four that challenged in the last election.

In the meantime, will anyone resign their position so that the current board will get to hand pick someone?

In the meantime, will anyone resign their position so that the current board will get to hand pick someone? Why would that make a difference? The new person just finishes out the term. If JC were to resign today, her spot on the board still comes up for re-election in 2009.

I am trying to separate different incidents so I can keep them clear. Is this from the 4/21 meeting ? As I understood it, CV abstained from approving the exec session and regular minutes at the 4/21/08 special meeting. She did not change her vote to an abstain from the 4/14 meeting. They properly reflect her nay vote. Or is this in reference to another vote ?

If JC were to resign today, her spot on the board still comes up for re-election in 2009. The last two board selected candidates CB and AT, both won re-election. I could see where name recognition to be able to run as an 'incumbent' likely helped them both.

I don't remember dates of the meeting, when they were voting on approving the Eola land purchase which she voted no on and then she said she retracted her vote from the MWG purchase. I don't believe you can do that officially but whatever. I am also talking for the past several years as well. Right after the referendum passed, she said she would support MV at least three times and each time changed her mind.

As far as waffling on MV- ( and I am sure someone will correct where I am wrong) is that CV never changed from her stance that her feeling was the 3rd HS was not needed. I thought she said she supported the purchase of AME on 1/21/08 but that she still maintained her previous position on the issue(no need) but was willing to move forward if AME was a more fiscally responsible choice as admin suggested based "on the will of the voters alone." If I am incorrect, maybe someone can check the video if they are interested. I wanted to see if I had missed a switch on something..

One thing to fight for something you believe in but once the vote is done, time to support the decision. CV has fought MV from day 1 and that is her right. However once the voters said yes, it was time to support it. She did not. ETA: I do believe being on the SB requires the same thing. Passion for what you beleive but also the ability to move forward once it is voted on. CV doesn't have that quality.

Who is feeding CV those carefully crafted questions? Perhaps that person should run for the SB.

After all, listening to CV for years ask questions at SB meetings that when questioned about what information she is asking for, she just sits there and says, ummm, I ah, and then re-reads her question from the note card. Maybe the person who wrote all those fine note-card questions would be better able to explain what he/she wanted if they ran for and were voted on to the SB.

My thoughts on who I would/wouldn't vote for:
I would vote for someone who has been in a leadership position on a PTA or some other district body.
I would not vote for someone who supported the NSFOC or is actively supported by the NSFOC if they do not disband.
I would not vote for someone who made divisive comments ("elitist" "racist" "prejudiced" "I moved here for Naperville schools" "I'm not sending my kids to THAT school with THOSE kids" "I pay higher taxes so my kids should go to school X") at any SB meeting or LTE since 2005/2006 because I think they have only made things worse and their presence on the SB would make any "unity" impossible.
I would vote for someone who acknowledges the accomplishments of our district but also had ideas for improvement.

Arwen's list is good.
I would vote for someone who appears to be able to look beyond their family/neighborhood and wants what's best for the district as a whole.
I would likely not vote for someone new to the district. I want someone who has a good understanding of where we are today and how we got here.
I would not vote for CV because she was not able to shift her anti-3rd HS stance to go along with what the voters approved. (and didn't vote for her in the 1st place due to her anti-ref position)
If JC were to run again I would vote for her because I have frequently seen her ask questions on topics that others were ready to rubber stamp without any discussion. I know sometimes it can be too much, but other times she's the only one who seems to be trying to get to the bottom of things.
It is scary that 4 seats are open because anything can happen. Will there be at least 4 good (IMO of course!) people who want to run?
