I don't understand Arch. Could you explain? From observation, there seems to be a 'bump up' in just volume in the number of kids who are not diagnosed 'on the spectrum' but do have the particulars in personality and behavior (which translates into learning ability in a given set of conditions) that is more than what it was in previous years. ETA: I'm still curious as to your "2 year" reference. By this explanation, then it would seem they are taking the right approach in exploring this group now or in the very near future. Regardless of whether or not the kid has a "label", it will be important to identify patterns or trends in this group. If a diagnosis or label comes out of that, perhaps this will only be a bonus. But what first needs to be addressed is the reason why these groups of kids might be failing.

2 year reference has to do with the number of kids in that particular year (just from parents talking numbers and ages)... 7th graders in the fall.. thus, in 2 years they will be at the HS level.
Have been plugged in with parents of older kids and many w/ younger ones and that seems to be the line (anecdotal observation only) of where there is 'more' than there used to be... and still an elevated number behind that line too; not a bubble.

OK, I thought there was something more concrete about the "2 years". I agree...this number will keep getting larger in this group of kids. District officials believe this as well; hence the need to explore alternatives, the special ed pilots, and creating an extra day of learning at the very earliest educational setting in Preschool. IMO, this is why the district has the great reputation it does, especially in the area of special ed.

We can call it concrete in 2 years, or thick swamp/marsh mud now. Just pointing it out. What anyone cares to believe or do with it is up to them.

Does anyone know where to find the school board meeting minutes these days? The ipsd.org website has been cleaned up under the school board section. There are still meeting dates and the agenda, but no more minutes. I tried the usually the actual name, www.ipsd.org/Uploads/Board_brd_min_052107.pdf for example but the way they name them must have changed.
