Local students receive scholarships
April 7, 2008 Sun staff Two local students were recognized this week as recipients of National Achievement Scholarships.
Chelsea Johnson, a Naperville North High School senior from Lisle, and Cortney L. Charleston, a Neuqua Valley High School senior from Naperville, were awarded $2,500 National Achievement Scholarships by the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Johnson and Charleston are among more than 800 black American high school students who received scholarships that totaled about $2.6 million. The awards, which may be used for undergraduate study at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university, are being underwritten by 40 corporate organizations and professional associations, and by National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
