New school will mean new boundaries for Kaneland
July 22, 2008 By Linda Girardi Special to The Beacon News
The Kaneland School District will begin discussing boundary changes this fall brought on by the opening of a second middle school in Sugar Grove in 2009.
"(The discussion will be) right out of the shoe in September," Superintendent Charles McCormick said.
The School Board anticipates making a boundary decision sometime before winter break.
McCormick said a preliminary examination leaves the district with three or four boundary options.
"How much of the Blackberry Creek Elementary enrollment is to be directed to the current and new middle school (is to be decided). That's where the flexibility is," McCormick said.
This year's fifth-graders from Kaneland John Shields Elementary in Sugar Grove and McDole Elementary School in Montgomery most likely will be attending the new middle school on Harter Road as the first graduating class. The existing middle school has a capacity of 700 to 750 students, while the new middle school will have a capacity of 1,250 students.
The district will be hosting public forums on the boundary issues in the months ahead.
"We want to provide sufficient time for public input," McCormick said.
