Everything went like clockwork with us. Drove my oldest to the WV Gold campus at 7:00, got my 6th grader on the bus for Scullen at 7:30 and then drove my 8th grader to Still. Perfect.

Phew makes my morning sound calm. Oh, my daughter's bus for Still was 45-50 minutes late. I guess after all these years in the district, I can't complain. I can't recall a late first day bus before for us.

The middle schoolers got the bus just fine, the freshman got the gold bus just fine... ... what was funny was that the UPPERCLASSMEN have a stop on the same corner but it switched actual spots on the corner and their intended bus came through, stopped (with the Juniors/Seniors, 3 total across the street), and then left. They were sure their bus should be coming from the previous direction and that other one couldn't have possibly been theirs. Luckily, the other bus must have radioed this in and the final bus to leave the area stopped and picked them up. I had to chuckle at that one... The veterans got hoodwinked

Our buses are usually on time in the morning but at least a half hour late coming home the first day. I expect no different today.

Things went very smoothly for us all around today. Buses were on time in the AM, only slightly delayed for the PM. I did hear that one bus from our area didn't get to the ES until after 4:00 pm, but those glitches do happen on the first day, sometimes even the first week. My kids came home very happy and my daughter said she made a new friend. Even my son had a good day. We're going out to dinner to celebrate the first day of school, as has become our tradition. I hope everyone else had a good day, too.

WV Green campus day1: extremely crowded lunch room (periods 5 and 6), as in: no where to sit for some - Is this a crisis? no - Do I look forward to this not being an issue starting next school year? yes

But then- some win - some lose . but yes, the lunch situation should be better

They can spill over more into the 9:59 lunch group on the downside those kids standing in front of my house for the WVHS bus are there in like 12-15 minutes - and have been to their locker, got their books set for the next few classes, maybe grabbed a snack -muffin and a milk and walked to class long before they'll even arrive next year. But then- some win - some lose . but yes, the lunch situation should be better We've strayed off topic here, but from a glass-is-half-full perspective, ALL MV students next year will open a nice, new, uncrowded school, and be able to define the traditions and legacy of what it means to be a Metea Valley Mustang. This is an opportunity that doesn't come along to every teenager. It may not be easy, but it seems to me like it could be an exciting propect. If anyone want to talk more about the first day of class in 2009, please start another topic.
