Kevin Meyer would have graduated from Neuqua Valley High School last spring.
Kevin died of cancer in November 2005 at age 16. During his battle, Kevin's family received an outpouring of support from friends, neighbors and the entire Neuqua community. That support led the Meyer family to remember Kevin by creating the Kevin Meyer Memorial Foundation, and through it offering the same kind of support they received to those who are going through the same sort of ordeal they endured.
"This is a way for us to give back to the community that was so generous helping us through Kevin's struggles," said Keith Meyer, Kevin's father.

Neuqua Valley Gold Rush
Students will sell food, host a "Guitar Hero" tournament and accept donations before Friday's football game vs. Plainfield Central at Neuqua Valley High School, 2360 95th St., Naperville.
Last fall, Neuqua Valley Gold Rush, a group of students who say they are the ultimate superfans for their school, held a tailgating fundraiser before the football team's game against Lake Park High School. Money they raised at the tailgate party was donated to the Kevin Meyer Memorial Golf Outing, which raised more than $20,000 that the foundation distributed to three local families and to Children's Memorial Hospital, where Kevin was treated.
Even though Meyer would have graduated by now, Neuqua Valley Gold Rush is again throwing a tailgate party to support the Kevin Meyer Memorial Golf Outing.
"He was always trying to help out other people and go the extra mile to make sure everyone was OK with everything," said Gold Rush member Zach Dressander, about why the group continues to raise funds in honor of Kevin.
This year, Gold Rush will hold its tailgate party Friday, prior to the football team's home game against Plainfield Central High School. The group is grilling hamburgers and hot dogs and fixing milk shakes, and will charge $5 a plate. It is also staging a $2 Guitar Hero tournament and accepting donations.
As for the golf outing, it will be held Sept. 27 at Tamarack Golf Course.
