Just wanted to share that I had an informative and enjoyable evening for curriculum nite. I think it will be a great freshman year for the students there. Some of my personal highlights: The English teacher having us read and analyize a Walt Whitman poem. Awakens in me how deep and invigorating these great works can be and how I know he will bring it out with his students. The history teacher discussing essays's the students will be writing. I was interested in meeting in person the teacher who asks my daughter (and others I am sure) "are you feeling peachy today" The spanish teacher beginning his story, fully in Spanish. Reminding me how hard learning a launguage can be (as if I needed that reminder!) The biology teacher's enthushiasm and wonderful empashis on lab work. The lab facilities look awesome. The deservedly high expectations for geometry. Yes, some of these theorums, get them commited to memory! The depth and professionalism of Phys Ed instruction. The helpful attitude from Guidance office. Of course it was also very nice to run into some old friends.

It was certainly nice to run into old friends. Had some great conversations. I do feel badly the WV Gold campus is closing. I wish they had found a way to keep it open.

My son went to the Gold Campus and I just didn't like it. Too far from main campus, the kids are 8th graders all over again. That is my opinion. I know there are all kinds of great things to be said for a freshman campus, I just found that it made it difficult for my son to connect with the main campus. There will be a freshman wing at Waubonsie so the concept is still in use only less rigid than a separate building.

I'm curious what you or your child(ren) like about the separate campus? My family has not liked it at all and I'm glad my two younger kids won't be stuck with it.

I think the all freshman campus is a good stepping stone between middle school and high school. My one son who as at WV Gold was nervous about being in such a big school right off of the bat. Going from MS to HS is a major step. I think the Gold campuses lessen the pressure at least from my kids prespective. I am sure we all have our own experences pro and con. Just my opinion.

I didn't ask to argue with you, I truly want to know what people like about it since my kids didn't and report not knowing any other kids who liked it either :-) I'm glad it is working out for your son.

Not arguing. I think it is good we share opinions which is great about this board. I enjoy everyone's point of view. In any case it will be gone next year. GO WARRIOR"S! Friday night
