This was an excellent event, as always, IMO. It was well-attended and a great opportunity to wonder how in the heck my kid gets from one class to another in the time period allotted (2 of the passing periods seem like they'd be nearly impossible). It was yet another chance to see what fantastic teachers and incredible curriculum is offered to our students.
I had recently read an LTE in the Trib from someone in another suburb who thought their child's curriculum night was poorly attended. I'm here to report that I saw lots of parents at Brooks, at Granger, and at WV and I think this parent involvement is reflected in the successes of our students.
Because this LTE had me thinking about it, I actually wrote down the number of parents attending each of the classes. I don't have the number of students in most of these classes nor do I know how many of the parents were there as couples. My own daughter thought it was unnecessary for me to attend since I already know all the teachers she has, and she (in the case of orchestra) or her sister has already had all these same classes. I have heard of other parents skipping this night for similar reasons but I still like to see the teachers again and hear what their plans are for the year.
Because there were so many parents in each classroom, I did not wind up with any personal time with any teachers beyond a wave or saying hello, but that's fine.
AP US History - 20 parents
AP English III - 16 parents (25 students in the class)
Orchestra - 36 parents (30 students in the class)
AP Calc BC - 18 parents
Spanish III - 17 parents
Honors Physics - 21 parents
In addition, there was a bit of hoopla. There was a band playing by the auditorium entrance, bags of handouts, flyers for WarriorFest, and the atrium had several tables set up with food, handouts, Warrior Wear, etc.
