I know my kids aren't the only ones with this problem so I'm wondering what others do about it. I have a high-schooler and middle-schooler who both have PE first period. Now that advisory has been cut from the HS schedule, announcements occur during first period there, the same as they do in the MS.
The kids in PE either don't get the announcements or can't possibly hear them (I'm not sure of the details). I have contacted the principals of both schools about this problem.
At WVHS I'm advised that my child can get the announcements on a TV screen in the cafeteria (which won't really work for her since she has a class that meets before lunch and halfway through lunch so she is already rushed to eat during the time left) or in the atrium (when does someone have time to stand in the atrium? as far as I can tell passing periods are quite rushed and after school is instrument pickup and rush to the bus) or by subscribing to the listserv. So she subscribed to the listserv last night. This mostly gives weekly announcements though so doesn't help in the event that information of an immediate timely nature is given out. For example, my daughter missed out on the chance to buy WV-NV football game tickets at school because she hadn't heard when they would be made available until after they were no longer selling them at school.
Same problem at the middle school, except that listserv was the only option given for kids who have PE 1st period. Same issue, what if there are announcements that pertain to that day after school? At least the middle school listserv puts out announcements on almost a daily basis, but the announcement is exceedingly long and does not specify which info is new versus old or ongoing so is tedious even for me to go through. This leaves me then with the responsibility of making sure that I read the announcements and figure out what is of interest to him and let him know.
Both these kids are avid Facebook users and communicate with their friends that way and never use e-mail at all so it will be a chore to get them to start looking at their e-mail for school announcements.
Why is it ok to give announcements out to most of the student body while 10% or more of the kids are in PE and don't get those same announcements?
