Emily Blaszak of Scullen Middle School in Naperville took second place in the first Kids for the Cure Essay Contest. Students in grades five to eight were invited to write a 500-word essay that answered the question, "What does living a healthy lifestyle mean to you?" "There are many bad choices in the world and it is hard to avoid them," Blaszek wrote in her essay. "It takes a strong person to say no to those tempting choices. When I say strong I don't mean lifting weights, but being able to say no and feel confident about almost everything you do." WLIT-FM's Melissa Forman and WGCI-FM's Bionce Foxx introduced Joe Higgins from Comcast when the awards were presented to the three award recipients, who included first-place winner Kelly DeJong and third-place winner Monae Jones, both of Hinsdale Middle School. "Comcast is proud to support the Komen Race for the Cure and the Kids for the Cure essay contest," Joe Higgins, Comcast community affairs manager, said in a news release. "It means a lot to the over 8,000 employees we have here."
