I have heard that last year, WV did away with the HS advisory class and that it is in jeopardy this next year at NV.
To me, it seems like when you are in 9th grade, you get 24 boys or girls in this class and they stay with you in the advisory period all four years. This seems like a great way to get to know some kids and have a small-school feel to such large schools as we have.
Can anyone with older kids shed some light on this? Do the kids seem to like it or was it a waste of time etc.

My son had advisory last year as a freshman. I know that they made announcements during that time but it was mostly like a study hall for that 20 minutes. I know that they were trying to experiment on this issue between the 2 schools to see if it was worth keeping/reinstating.

My son had it for 2 years at Waubonsie. The kids don't stay together -which I was very surprised about. But, I guess it makes sense as kids move in and out. Complete waste of time. Glad to see it gone. It was 20 minutes during the day for my son to catch up on the newspapers.

Except that the kids got announcements during advisory. Now they get them 1st period. So kids who have gym or late arrival miss them. Though apparently advisory was mostly used as a study hall or social time.
