None of my kids has ever attended a WV basketball game. My current high-schooler said she'd go to one this year and my grade-schooler is going to start playing basketball and also wants to attend a game. I couldn't find a good schedule at the WV site but found this one on a newspaper site and it appears we have almost no options for going to a weekend home game. Check this out. Almost all of the remaining games are away games... I wonder why we have so many away games in a row, it seems odd. www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/sports/1292276,wa-bkcaps_au112108.article Wed 1/7/09 East Aurora 7:15 p.m. Sat 1/10/09 @ Larkin 6 p.m. Fri 1/16/09 @ Neuqua Valley 7:30 p.m. Thu 1/22/09 Lake Park 7:15 p.m. Sat 1/24/09 @ Downers Grove South 7:30 p.m. Thu 1/29/09 @ Barrington 7 p.m. Sat 1/31/09 @ Lyons Township 6 p.m. Sat 2/7/09 @ St. Charles North 6 p.m. Sun 2/8/09 @ York TBA Fri 2/13/09 @ Dundee Crown 7:15 p.m. Sat 2/14/09 @ East Aurora 7:30 p.m. Fri 2/20/09 Elgin 7:30 p.m. Fri 2/27/09 St. Charles East 7:30 p.m.

This Wednesday night WV is home against them with Sophomores playing at 5:45 before Varsity at 7:15(I know why a Wednesday night??!). The NV/WV game at Neuqua on the 16th will be a fun one too. Last year it was at WV and it was NUTS!!! I have never seen that gym as crowded as it was that night. WV pulled off a last second upset. It was CRAZY . Otherwise the last two Fridays in February will be home games. This year's schedule in general seemed a little screwy to me but just my opinion

But I did go to the holiday tournament at East. I don't think either of 204's High schools have a shot at East this year.( maybe at Nequa, but that is a big maybe)

Hi there. My son is on the basketball team- doesn't play due to a season ending injury in the first game. Aurora East put on a great game. Our boys had plenty of opportunities, but couldn't get the ball in the net. Were any of you there? My husband and I have been disappointed at dwindling school spirit at the games this year. The band can never seem to make playing at these games a priority. East Aurora is the 2nd biggest game of the season behind Neuqua Valley and the only game at home this year. There aren't members of the band that could have come out last night to support the team? And, what's up with the Poms? I think that group had gotten to be such a group of Prima Donnas it is ridiculous! I give tons of credit to the cheerleaders. They are at every game - home and away. I believe they are also a competition team and have a full calendar this time of year. I don't think the poms have been at more than 2 games this season. That's a shame. You can find all game schedules for all sports, all levels, most all schools at www.athletics2000.com I highly recommend it. Yes, the boys are coming up on a long road trip. My 7th grader played volleyball this fall. After the first game, the next 5 were away games. That 's a problem when she's on the AA team (plays first the first 1/2 of the season) and plays at 4. My elem son doesn't get home until 4...missed a lot of 1st games this past fall. I saw the boys BB schedule early on and told all my BB friends to be sure to get to the games in December.. there were 8 home games in December.... Oh, scheduling - RE: Wedn night Aurora game. I think the same reason they schedule Neuqua during a school break - MLK day. To keep the crowds down. East Aurora can host a Friday night rivalry game as the gym is HUGE and parking is not gridlocked as it is at WVHS. This Friday night our Girls BB (12-2) play at home and there is a whole day of wrestling at WVHS on Saturday. I think you are hard pressed to not find something going on at the high school on any given Fri/Sat. If you can make it to the Neuqua game on the 16, come early to watch the sophomores play. I think they are undefeated and win by large amounts with the whole bench playing (unlike Neuqau which runs up the score with the starters IMO)!

thanks, sportsmom. Great post summarizing alot of the basketball, and other sports, scene! .... My husband and I have been disappointed at dwindling school spirit at the games this year. The band can never seem to make playing at these games a priority. East Aurora is the 2nd biggest game of the season behind Neuqua Valley and the only game at home this year. There aren't members of the band that could have come out last night to support the team? ..... I can answer the Pep Band question. I have a student who plays in it. The Pep Band has a planned schedule of which games they play at. Split (evenly, I believe) btw boys games and girls games. The Wed home game was not scheduled. IIRC, there are approx 10 or 12 games on the Pep Band schedule, so thats 5 or 6 boys and girls games each. But I agree, the EA game at home would have been a very good one to schedule the Pep Band! I guess its the Pep Band Director who controls that? And I guess its the Pep Band Director who decides how many times the band plays? (Just so you understand....its not a matter of the Pep Band kids "not making a game a priority" --in this case the EA game. Its the Director's schedule that "didnt make it a priority." )

Thanks for the info on the pep band. I would love to see the schedule. My family only remembers the pep band at the first game - Naperville Central. We don't recall seeing them since. There are only 3 home games left.

Thanks for the info! Jan 22, Feb 20 and Feb 27 are the remaining Boys games. Glad to see they will be at Nuequa. The WVHS fans will appreciate it. The pep band was only at 1 boy's game in December. The boys get them for 5 games and the girls got them for the rest. I am looking forward to seeing them on the 22nd vs. Lake Park.
What's up with "middle school" band students playing at a game? My 7th grader is in the band and doesn't know anything about it. Is it for honors or jazz band? Thanks for all the info.

The MS night is just for the 8th graders. The Marching Band does a similar night during football season. It is a recruitment event. Tonite at the Girl's game it was Alumni night and was really great to see all the former members come back and play. Tonite the band was HUGE !!
