www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=337027&src=76Applications available for nursing scholarships The Dunham Nursing Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. The scholarships are made possible by the Rush-Copley Foundation, along with several community health care and education partners as the result of a $750,000 grant from The Dunham Fund. The grant represents an innovative project effort of community partners that include: Alden of Waterford, Aurora University, Dreyer Medical Clinic, Kane County Health Department, Provena Mercy Medical Center, Rush-Copley Foundation, Rush-Copley Medical Center, VNA of Fox Valley and Waubonsee Community College. Over the next two years, 121 merit-based scholarships will be awarded to highly motivated students and nurses whose primary residence or place of employment is in the greater Aurora area to pursue and achieve their academic and professional goals in health care. The program provides two-year scholarships to qualified individuals pursuing an associate degree in nursing, a baccalaureate in nursing, or a graduate degree in nursing at Waubonsee Community College or Aurora University. Some of the eligibility requirements for applicants include: • Must be a resident of Aurora as defined by The Dunham Fund for at least one year before application, and be a citizen or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States; or employed at an Aurora-area employer as defined by the Dunham Fund for a period of one year before the scholarship application in a full-time or part-time position. • Must be enrolled in, accepted or eligible for admission to either the nursing program at Aurora University or Waubonsee Community College. • Willing to participate in a Dunham Scholars volunteer health care project that benefits the greater Aurora area community during the two-year scholarship program. • Applicants must submit a completed, signed, and dated application form postmarked by Nov. 20. Waubonsee Community College and Aurora University each have a predetermined number of scholarships that will be awarded for an associate degree in nursing, a baccalaureate degree in nursing and a graduate degree in nursing. Distribution of the Dunham Nursing Scholarship Program Awards for the 2009-2010 Academic Year include: students seeking an associate degree in nursing from Waubonsee Community College; and students or eligible registered nurses seeking a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing from Aurora University.
