Kaneland seeking used instruments www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/news/1500414,2_1_AU29_INSTRUMENT_S1.article March 29, 2009 LINDA GIRARDI The Beacon News The Kaneland School District is launching a musical instrument donation drive to provide students with an instrument they otherwise would not be able to afford or rent. "I was trying to think of ways to address the slow economy," Suzanne Satterfield, a music and band teacher at Kaneland John Stewart Elementary in Elburn, told School Board members. Satterfield said she often hears from parents and grandparents who have held on to their musical instruments and think they could be donated for good use in the schools. She said the expense of an instrument and repair can be a roadblock to a student having the enriching experience of playing an instrument. The idea is to develop a "bank" of used instruments that are donated and collected from throughout the Kaneland community. Students meeting eligibility requirements can rent them at an affordable rate. The district will host a donation drive from April 19 through May 1. Drop-offs can be made at all Kaneland elementary schools from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A qualified instrument technician will appraise the instruments, and donation letters will be provided. Only brass and woodwind instruments will be accepted.

This is an interesting idea, I have been wondering if something like this could be done in 204. We have an old percussion kit we want to donate. I would rather see it go to someone who might not play an instrument otherwise.
