Indian Prairie Names New Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Leadership Services
Indian Prairie School District officials announced Linda Rakestraw will become the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Leadership Services. She will be working closely with the middle and high school principals with a strong focus on leadership, student achievement, and communication amongst staff, parents and overall school community. Superintendent Birkett adds, "Linda has been a wonderful addition to our district and I have great confidence in her abilities as she takes on this new challenge."
Rakestraw began her career in education in 1982 as a language arts teacher in Annawan, IL. She continued to work in the Annawan school district for the next 26 years in a variety of capacities that accumulated as principal and assistant superintendent of curriculum from 1995 to 2008. She started working in Indian Prairie as the Lead Administrator at the Frontier Campus last year. In that role, Linda engaged in collaborative activities with instructional councils and guidance departments from Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley High Schools and she aligned services and curriculum with the College of DuPage.
Rakestraw is recognized by her Indian Prairie colleagues as an administrator who is a collaborative and effective leader. She is also known for her background in working with the business community and local community colleges. Rakestraw offers, "I greatly enjoyed my role as lead administrator at Frontier Campus, where I worked with an outstanding staff and wonderful group of students. However, I am looking forward to the challenges of the new position and the opportunities I will have to advance and promote the goals of the Board of Education and Superintendent Birkett."
She received her bachelor's degree, master's degree, and educational specialist degree from Western Illinois University.
