I recieved my daughter's registration packet from WV. I am a little irked to say the least. In it was a form explaining all freshman students would be sharing lockers. WTF? I thought we fought for these past 3 years to build a high school to relieve overcrowding.
I understand the issue lies in the creation of a "freshman campus" within the building. Okay, I give up. WV was not designed to do what it does today let alone house a freshman campus. So now our kids are scrambling around trying to find "locker buddies." This sucks.

Seems that if this could have been prevented, it should have been. I still don't understand the need to create a freshman campus within the building nor what benefits that provides.

The freshman will still have to leave the house to go to the Science rooms I believe, as you cant move the labs. So they will still have to mix with the rest of the student body at some point.

That is correct. Per the registration packet, the classes in the "freshman holding pen" are English, Math, Social Studies, and Foreign Language. They have to leave the safety of their nest for gym, art, music, science and other classes. I bet most of those kids would be very happy to leave the area for a locker.

But, the freshman class is the smallest it will ever be and they will need to share? Most don't know this, but Gregory students all share lockers. I guess they don't complain as they all get to go to Neuqua. And, my senior son has never used the school issued locker, ever. He chooses to use his athletic locker and carry his stuff in his backpack. Backpacks are allowed in the high school classrooms where they were forbidden in the middle school. I don't know that all options were explored before the packet was sent out. Is it purely a logistical thing?

Nobody uses their lockers because NONE OF THEM WEAR COATS!!! Drives me crazy but whatever. Seriously, though they end up just putting all of their stuff in their backpacks, sport lockers, or "more conveniently located friend lockers". My kid shared with three girls because "his" locker was conveniently located near their classes . They would have fun by sticking feminine products in his textbooks when he would store them there on rare occasions.

I think it is not that big a deal but the kids who do use their lockers are freshman. It seems that they could have done something to avoid this. I understand that WV will be crowded for the next couple of years. I also understand that our district is so tied to the dang freshman centers that they will make WV fit it come heck or high water. And part of the price is freshman lockers.
Maybe it is the whole freshman center I don't like. lol

You know I don't see why the SD doesn't just get some temporary extra lockers. It would be easy enough to get and make it more comfortable for the freshman. My daughter doesn't care but there are places in that building where temporary lockers can be set up.
