I've driven by MV a few times recently, and can't believe how ugly (ok, maybe non-descript is kinder) the school is so far. This is from the Eola road viewpoint...I'm not sure if the "official front" of the school is on a diffferent side. I know that aesthetics are not really that important and the inside of the school may be fantastic (or not) -- but I think we deserved a more inspiring design for $150M.

asmo - we knew all along it was going to be more utilitarian than ornate. It will look better once all the construction trailers are gone and final lanscaping is in.
The size sure look deceiving from Eola Rd.

Kudos for the orientation of the football field...the setting sun will be in the visiting fans' eyes.

I don't think it was necessary to "tart it up" (though I view Neuqua's design as more muscular than ornate) but it seems they went to the opposite extreme. This may be stretching it, but the main classroom sections (with windows) remind me of portables. Maybe it's the color of the brick. The layout just seems weird.

I think too much is placed on how the school looks. From what I have seen MV is more attractive already then alot of schools in the Chicago area and I have seen some bad ones. But an expensive building does not make a school.

Agreed, but I miss some of the majestic looking buildings of the past, such as Lane Tech. On the other hand, I've also argued that perhaps there should be a standard blueprint for schools as we've often experienced problems with new designs (narrow hallways, poor acoustics, etc.).

I sure miss those building too. Lane Tech is beautiful. So are alot of other schools built in that era. Evanston, Lindblom and a number of Chicago city high schools. Sadly they were built in a different era and nowadays architecture is pretty bad and the designs poor. (The worst I have seen is Rolling Meadows) The truth is those old buildings are way to expensive to build in this time period.
