The dance was not interupted, according to Aurora Fire Department Deputy Cheif John Lehman, but about 20 Aurora firefighters fought the blaze for more than a half-hour before getting it under control. Firefighers were called to the out building on the north end of the high school property, just off the adjacent parking lot, at about 8:23 p.m., Lehman said. The fire's cause is under investigation by the department's arson investigation team but arson is not suspected because doors were locked and there was no forced entry to the building. The 30-foot-by-50-foot cinder block building held maintenance equipment, lawn equipment, tractors and gas storage, Lehman said. No injuries were reported.

Good work by the Aurora Fire Dept. I am glad the homecoming dance continued and was unaffected. Yes, the pickup traffic was tough, but drivers that I saw were pretty patient....which is the only way to handle it.

WAUBONSIE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL Message sent - 10/13/2009 STORAGE SHED FIRE
Dear Waubonsie Valley Family,
This is Warrior Principal, Kristine Marchiando, with a thank you for your participation in Homecoming Week last week. Our students and staff participated in a week of A NIGHT ON THE NILE activities. Thank you to members of Student Council and thank you to the many parents and teachers that donated their time to chaperone all of the events.
I want to let you know that the Aurora Fire Department identified the cause of the fire that damaged a storage building near the north parking lot on Saturday night. The fire was caused by a heater that malfunctioned.
We are appreciative of the Aurora Fire and Police Departments' quick response and handling of the situation. We are also grateful for the patience shown by our students and parents who were at school for the homecoming dance on Saturday evening. Thank you and GO WARRIORS!
Kristine Marchiando
Principal

www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/news/1825916,2_1_AU15_WVFIRE_S1-091015.article Heater caused school fire October 15, 2009 By MATT HANLEY mhanley@scn1.com AURORA -- A faulty heater was the cause of a fire that did $500,000 in damage to a Waubonsie Valley High School storage building during Saturday's homecoming dance. Aurora fire officials confirmed Wednesday that the fire was not suspicious, but accidentally sparked by a heater in the building. No one was injured in the fire that started while the homecoming dance was taking place at the main school building a few hundred yards away. The dance was not interrupted while about 20 Aurora firefighters fought the blaze for more than 30 minutes. Arson was almost immediately ruled out as the cause because the doors of the storage building were locked and there was no forced entry to the building. The 30-by-50-foot cinder block building held maintenance equipment, lawn equipment, tractors and gas storage, officials said. The building also houses a ticket booth and restrooms serving the adjacent athletic fields. Indian Prairie spokesman Janet Buglio said everything in the building was insured.
