Of course we now have two MS's, Scullen and Still, that are split feeders to two different HSs. I was wondering how typical that is for other districts with multiple HSs. Here is my look at the boundaries for some neighboring districts.
Naperville 203: 5 MS's and 2 HSs. 1 Split MS, Kennedy.
Plainfied 202: 7 MS's and 4 HSs. 1 Split MS, Indian Trail (to PCHS and PEHS)
Oswego 308: 4 MS's and 2 HS's. 0 Split
St Charles 303: 3 MS and 2 HS's. 1 Split, Thompson. (Actually, a very small part of Wredling goes to St N while rest of this school goes to E, but I didnt count that as a split)
My conclusion is that our district boundaries do what other districts typically do: minimize splits yet recognize that fractional-divisions, especially for centrally located schools, will exist.
What got me thinking really was this question. "Are split middle schools very unusual?' The answer is no.

What got me thinking really was this question. "Are split middle schools very unusual?' The answer is no. agreed- not totally uncommon. However when suggsted to split Hill, it seemed unacceptable - even though 2 schools far north and 2 schools central that feed. ( and yes I remember original proposal was just Brookdale to WVHS - but does Scullen split with 1 feeder by itself ? ) - seemed to make far more sense to split MS's then send ES's so far from their neighborhoods the difference with our district is that we had a chance most others have not had - by opening a 3rd high school there was a chance to fix assignments that may have made sense at one time, but no longer do - due to growth - retraction= population shifts etc.- we chose not to.
