Friday's Upstate Eight Conference meet turned out to be a culmination of this season's highlights for Neuqua Valley.
The Wildcats again received strong performances from multiple competitors in their 144.725-point, first-place finish at the six-team UEC championship. Neuqua also won the conference title outright by virtue of its 4-1 record in UEC meets.
Wildcats coach Christine Clark added to the night's festivities by winning the conference's coach of the year award, voted on by UEC coaches.
"It's very exciting but I'm more excited about our score tonight," Clark said.
And why wouldn't she be?
Neuqua scored nearly a clean sweep across the board, finishing first on vault (37.025), bars (35.5) and beam (36.0). The Wildcats' lone non-winning event was floor (36.2), where they took second to St. Charles Co-op's 36.35.
Catherine Miller (37.050) finished second in the all-around category, with a dazzling 9.75 effort on the balance beam buoying her overall score.
The senior was thrilled to see how her teammates performed.
"This was our best score this year," she noted. "It's awesome that we could do it in conference."
Morgan Knight finished fourth in all-around with a 36.425 cumulative total and Ashley Nelson claimed seventh place (35.95).
Knight medaled in three of four events and Nelson finished in the top five in two.
Waubonsie-Metea Co-op earned a fourth-place team finish with 141.15 points.
Senior Danielle Christy (8.8 on vault) left after tumbling on the landing of her second vault attempt. She was told by a trainer she probably had a concussion.
Emily Kelly stepped up with a third-place, 36.9 all-around mark.
"She pulled through today," co-head coach Ashley Abruscato said. "Her beam routine was solid and she did her tuck and her flip flops."
Kelly scored 9.4s for vault and beam, taking second on floor (9.3) and third on beam.
"I've been really working on staying on the beam in practice," she said. "It worked tonight."
Maddie Strick tied for fourth on the uneven bars with an 8.85 as Waubonsie Co-op's other medalist
