KidsMatter sponsors youth volunteer fairSeptember 17, 2010 By ANGELA BENDER For Sun-Times Media Students in grades six through 12 will again be able to connect with, and sign up for, opportunities to serve in their community. On Wednesday, KidsMatter will host its eighth annual Youth Volunteer Fair from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the city Municipal Center. "For kids who want to get service hours for college or job applications or resumes or are just interested in serving, it's just a great opportunity for everyone involved," said Katie Russell, KidsMatter program manager. In addition to the more than 25 organizations at the free fair, KidsMatter will host a new family volunteering workshop, which will focus on volunteering as a benefit not only to the individual but also as a way to strengthen a family. The 15-minute workshop will be held twice during the evening. "Hopefully we have something for most people's interest levels," Russell said. "If you want to work with children, seniors, outdoors or with animals, there is a huge variety."
