West High will have two ‘partner principals’
By Matt Brennan For The Beacon-News July 20, 2011 3:18PM
AURORA — The West Aurora School District has hired two longtime area educators to serve as partner principals for West Aurora High School. Former West High Principal Dan Bridges resigned in late June to take an assistant superintendent position with the Naperville School District. West Aurora has hired Ross Truemper, a former principal in Naperville and Oswego, and Rudy Keller, former administrator at Waubonsie Valley High School, to serve together as principals at West High.
While both will provide leadership on a daily basis, Truemper will assume the lead position, according to a district e-mail sent out to parents by Edward Howerton, assistant superintendent for human resources. Keller retired this year from the Indian Prairie School District, where he was associate principal at Waubonsie Valley. Truemper retired in 2009 from the Naperville School District, where he was the principal at Naperville North.
Keller, a graduate of Aurora University, has a master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University, and a doctorate of education from Loyola University in Chicago. He spent his entire 33-year career in the Indian Prairie district.
Truemper, a graduate of Monmouth College, has a master’s in physical education from Northern Illinois University and received a general administrative certification from Governor’s State University. He has been principal at Naperville North and Oswego high schools.
Bridges had been West High principal since 2007.

Beacon Letters to Editor: West High only needs one principal
July 26, 2011
West High should have only one principal I will probably get a rebuttal to my opinion because I do not know its entirety regarding the article “West High will have two `partner principals’” in the July 21 Beacon-News. The West High School Board could not find just one qualified person to be their principal? I personally never heard of two “partner principals” heading a school. I’m not saying these two gentlemen are not qualified for this position; as I read of their past accomplishments they certainly are highly intelligent. It is difficult to comprehend today with the state our economy is in not only through out the country but also in our state of Illinois. We have high unemployment, cutbacks in social services, price of gasoline, groceries, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Here we have two retired principals who undoubtedly received a substantial salary and pension plus. Now they come out of retirement and will begin working at West High and no doubt once again will be drawing another decent salary and pension possibly with other benefits. You may call this “double dipping” which we have seen in so many other instances. I guess education does pay off. For some! I guess the best example would be ex-Mayor Daley in Chicago.
